IMO, if you know there will be separating, touching, etc, before you go, it would be alright. I havn't been assaulted so I don't find a haunted house reenactment of it personally terrifying. Of course all of this would have to be declared before you pay the entrance fee, and many people would not feel comfortable and not want to go; definetly understandable.
I think I've seen more disturbing things, like dead babies in bloody cribs, which I find sad, not haunted house material.

Madame Turlock, I absolutely agree. Rape is not entertainment.

Don't care for this kind of thing either. Tasteless. The object is to entertain, not traumatize.

And gore is no substitute for creativity.

Default please read

hello everyone - incase you have missed it - I am the creator of Asylum Hill and have written a reply on the previous page of what actually happened in the haunt.

Once again I want to let you all know that there were no themes of reape or sexual assult and all the guests who entered the haunt were an invited audience who knew all the actors inside.

Please remember that you are reading a review and your imaginations of what went on in the house and probably far worse than what actually happened.

As a scare attraction designer I do not include any themes of rape/sexual violence in any of my attractions.
I agree with you all that these themes have no place in haunts.

Thanks.

I could do without the whole sexual overtones. It would be very easy to get carried away with all the adrenaline rushes going on and someone could very well get hurt.

However, the idea of just isolating certain members of the group is a horror movie come to life.

hey nightbox it's interesting to have a pro asylum hill Point of view it seems that the review of your haunt in the first post stopped this thread dead in it's tracks as most people read

"Most of us at times were dragged onto the bed and propositioned in any number of ways. As a group of men – most of us got straddled by a warty faced inmate who started whispering sweet nothings in our ears. She was so close to our faces that we could feel her breath and it wouldn’t have taken much for a confused punter to respond to her advances. Most scenes in here ended with her “husband” coming in and finding us and throwing the victim into the en-suite toilet and locking them in – laughing as they banged to be let out."

and thought it crossed the boundry of entertainment over to harassment and/or endangerment of the actor. what do you think of that write-up was it unfair or do you think she(the actor) went too far?

also in an attempt to continue this thread past the statement "sextual harassment has no place in a haunt" wheres your line when it comes to gore?

Hey everyone.

I thought the review was fair as they described what actually went on in the haunt. This haunt was designed to push the bounderies and try to steer away from the family orientated market that most haunts now aim for.
There was never any danger to any of the actors or audience as it was an invited audience and I was at the door collecting tickets. As a haunt designer this was a one of experience and thats why I told the actors to really go for it - my other haunts have a no-touching rule and have simular rules to other haunts.
I agree with ' sexual harassment has no place in a haunt'. However in London many theatre companies now have productions where the actors can really get involved with the audience memebers - recently in a production of 'Masque of the Red Death' by theatre company Punchdrunk a girl friend of mine was locked in a room and kissed by an actor. Is this classed as sexual harrasment? Or because its a theatre performance is it excepted? Whats the difference between a theatre production and a haunt?

I think the thing everyone has to except is that everyone is different and gets scared and upset by different things.
In Asylum Hill some people didnt like getting touched but some people LOVED it and went through time and time again because they had such a great experience.
In haunts now you can have disembowled pigs / cows / dogs /cats etc and you can buy them from haunt suppliers, is this against animal rights? Wheres the line with this.

I think we all need to remember that when you go to haunt, like going to the theatre or cinema, everyone knows its not real.

And as a final thought lol . . . . the line wouldnt be there if it wasnt meant to be crossed.

Nightbox.
