See, now that's what I'm talkin about! I wish I heard more stories like that! Thanks for sharing peanutboy. I don't get to hear enough stories with a positive spin on the holiday. Although, as was said earlier, Mormons don't seem to have as much of a problem with the holiday as J. Witnesses... but you know, to each his own. I won't cram my beliefs down other people's throats if they'll extend the same courtesy. I haven't had to deal with too many dissenting people in my lifetime and none in my current neighborhood regarding Halloween, so I guess I'm a lucky.
Yeah, it only takes one rotten apple to spoil the barrel. The only complaint I have with my neighborhood is that we live in a fairly rural area and don't get a lot of trick or treaters.

I wasn't calling YOU ignorant, I was calling the stereotype of southerners an ignorant liberal media hollywood etc etc agenda.
If you watch tv, you'd think we all taaaaaaaaallllllllkk reeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllll slllllowwwwwwww and add syllables to one syllable words, live in trailers, quote bible verses all day long, marry our sisters, chew ta-backy, have missing teeth and are eager to comment about how tornadoes sound.

All I can say is wow! look at all that yard, what potential! Don't get me wrong, the house looks fantastic, let me put my comment in context. I live in a gracious mobile home community on a comparatively postage stamp size lot. With a front yard of about 10'X20' a 10'X10' deck w/ attached ramp, next to a side yard with potentially a quarter of available space as the front. That and as far as storage goes, I have a 8'X8' storage shed, so I guess I also really envy the fact that you have at bare minimum have two floors, a basement, (and an attic, perchance?) not to mention a two car garage which could also double as a workshop/storage area. That's always been the challenge for me, trying to fit as much as I can in a limited space, both in terms of display and storage as well.
Sorry for the rant, I guess what I meant to say was, I tip my hat to you, you lucky duck, Congrats!

Peace back at you wilbret. Sorry, it seemed like you were associating me with the "ignorant liberal media hollywood etc etc" and I'm nothing like that. If it means anything, I've never lived anywhere south and I don't have that opinion of anyone who does. Well, at least I don't prejudge anyone who lives South. Some people I've met who live south really fit the stereotype, but they're few and far between. I do find that many people I've met who live further south do have stronger religious beliefs. Nothing wrong with it. It's just my observation.
Thanks! My NC house was supposed to be my perfect Halloween house. It had a circle driveway in the front on over an acre in the woods. Fantastic potential, but after the response I got after the first couple of years there, I toned it down. In fact I went to Orlando during Halloween last year, just so I could get my Halloween fix.
Here is my old house. My thanks to Lewis Barrett Lehrman.

That's an awesome painting, Princess. Did you do that?
Guys, I think we have highjacked Princess' thread long enough. We here in he South have just as many stereotypes for Yankees. Most of them unfair. It's been that way sense the beginning and doesn't need to be perpetuated (OOOH, the redneck used a big word) on this forum. We are all here for the same reason. We all love Halloween. To me, that makes us friends by association, and if I had the opportunity, I would love to meet and shake the hand of everyone here, no matter where they're from..........CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?????
Ahh Princess...that stinks about not being able to haunt up your old house. Haunting the woods is amazingly fun. Its the perfect setting; I mean, everybody's just a little bit scared of the woods at night. All you need is a trail and some good smudge pots or lanterns to light the way and your set. You don't have to spend all that time trying to make your yard or garage look like something else.

I didn't paint it. I had the sketch commissioned by Lewis Barrett Lehrman. I never had the full blown painting because we put our house on the market shortly afterward and I decided to wait and maybe have him do this house instead.
Here is his website. I have several of his prints and they are fantastic.
