I was always taught that anything worth doing is worth doing right. When I was young, one Halloween I was successful scaring the neighborhood kids and adults. Right then I knew "... this is worth doing." The "victims" laughed about it and when the next H'ween approached, they asked, "What're you gonna do this year?"

I have several passions and this is just one. But it's so much fun for me and for my son, while bringing enjoyment to the kids and most of the adults (though only a few admit it), that it continues to be worth doing.

My work is finance where everything must be balanced and perfect. Very straight laced.

Another passion is our custom cars where everything must be perfect to show - why I don't show anymore. Just enjoy the cars.

I used to be passionate about carpentry as a hobby. Great satisfaction when finished, but not exactly stress-free.

Halloween can be lopsided, dirty, and crazy.
It can be approached methodically to successfully obtain chaos.
We can be creative without criticism.
If something doesn't work, 10 other things do work and you're the only one who knows that damn fan motor burned out so the monster's head isn't turning - so what?

Halloween is fun. NO (outside) stress. If it ever gets stressful, I'll quit.

As for those who don't get it ... they are the ones missing out on the fun. The problem is theirs not yours. Don't make it yours.

There is no choice.
Give it up.
Do what only the rest of the world thinks is normal.
Never do anything different.
Never distinquish yourself.
Never be unique.
Die frustrated and forgotten and never getting the promotion because you are invisible and and old horn dog because your wife left you for a 'more exciting guy' and the kids never visit because you never had a life outside of work and are dead now anyway..

does the coffin look better now?
You're welcome.

My mother didn't celebrate Mother's Day.
True story.
I was in school one day and the teacher asked me when Mothers' Day was, and I told her I didn't know, because my mother said:"Kid, if you can only put out for me one day of the year, forget it.."
And she dragged me down to the office and had the principal call her up and my Mom said;"I'm glad he remembered the phrase 'put out'..that shows he pays attention to the proper quote and will be a good writer some day because he can recall exactly the words used that will lend color to his copy."
Then she hung up.
I dug that...

For the most part I'm lucky... my best friend, my husband, and my kids LOVE halloween almost as much as me... I think most others either think it's ok, and then a few wonder how I can be so obsessed with it. My sister even put up with me creating sores and scars from latex and gelatin at christmas. Hey, it's my hobby! It's so very creative, and I love that aspect of it.

Next time the wife calls you weird for going on line and looking at Halloween stuff, tell her "Hmmmm, ok, if you want normal I visit some porn sites! Is that normal enough?" Keep true to yourself... life's too short to try to conform to others' expectations.

My 2 cents! We are lucky our best friends are just as into halloween as we are. they got that way by helping us with our haunt. We know we can talk all halloween all the time with them. Our other friends... yup, they say we have too much time on our hands too. Even our own daughter has turned on us! mom! i don t wanna talk halloween! lucky for us she still does help with building and always is around to be a scareactor!
What kills me ,is when you go to a yardsale and ask for hallween stuff, they say sorry but I got some christmas stuff over there, or I never thought about bring halloween stuff out , it's too early....duh! it wasn't too early for the christmas things.

That's funny... I actually had a co-worker call me weird today also. He said I was weird for working on Halloween props so soon before Halloween. Soon?! I already feel behind!!

Yep, story of our lives, people either think we are weird or are into devil worship!!
**shrugs**Well, it takes all kinds, and our kind loves Halloween!!

Just the other day I walk into work and somebody had written on the big white dry-erase board that we write our work assignments on:

" 168 Days 'Til Christmas"

So I wrote right under it:

" 114 Days 'Til Halloween" (it was 4 days ago)

Everybody knew EXACTLY who wrote that up there!!

Keep on, brother, we are HERE for you!!!

ok,so WHAT is normal........ like people that play golf & get so pissed on the course that the start throwing around they're expensive golf clubs, or lets sit home or at a bar & drink, porn sites. My friends pretty much give me space & usually are facinated by what i come up with & build , & it probably helps when you tell people " i do this for a hobby & outlet of creative ideas for your entertainment...... just think of what i'm capable if ya piss me off !!??!! mwahaaa (rubbing hands together in a abby-normal way)
I don't think people will ever think us halloweeners are normal, & with too much time on our hands.......(like we wish we had extra time to finish half of the projects we work on !) but the funny thing is those of them that come by on halloween love what we do ! I think it's more like they are jealous that we have these talents & do what we like no matter what others think-SHEEP-
I have mp3's loaded that i listen to at work that range from sound effects to halloween music (noxarcana, midnite synd) that i listen to to give me inspiration ideas while i work & have had my customers ask what i'm listening to,so give it to them & love the look on they're face ! the raise they're eyebrows,& say"OOOOOOKay & walk off, I LOVE IT ! later they ask me about it & even after telling them i get mixed reactions. & i don't give a hoot !
Now where that bucky skull............
