Default What Form of Ice Did Ya Use in PVC Chiller?

I used the filled water bottles. I had a 5-foot pipe and used 7 bottles. Didn't seem to do the trick. I was gonna cut off the bottles and use the "tubular ice", but never got around to refilling it on the actual Halloween night. I think I'll do that next year though. Ice cubes were a pain in the @ss, but if you guys think that's the way to go, I'll try that next year. My fog didn't stay on the ground, but it was kind of breezy here. I had a bunch of extra frozen bottles that I didn't get around to using. Today I took them out of the freezer to thaw out so I could dump them. I did notice that once they thawed away from the sides of the bottles that they didn't seem like they would have done anything in the chiller. Maybe everyone knew this would happen, but I just wasn't thinking about that at the time.

I used frozen water bottles too. But what i've been noticing is that it seems as tho my fog lays low if theres no wind, WHETHER OR NOT i use any form of ice ! I don't get it, but the PVC seems to work with no ice ! I tried this during testing, and also on halloween nite the bottles were melted about 1/2 way thru the nite and it kept on working. However, most of the nite it rose because it was windy and raining. But whenever the wind stopped it layed low as he||even long after the bottles were melted.

But what I have found is that there should be something covering the end of the pipe such as a towel or something to slow the fog down and keep it from exiting too fast, which causes it to rise far more. On halloween i used a bushel of cornstalks i got where i bought our pumpkin. For me at least, it seems to be much more important than having ice !

This was my first time and I didn't go to the effort of a PVC chiller. I read tip recommending a flexible clothes-dryer hose. I used that punched with holes. I covered it with wet spanish moss. It hung to the ground great until the wind picked up. at which point it made incredible vortexes. It was awesome. It was hot and humid in my part of the country though. I will double the length of my hose next year.

I used 5 feet of 4 inch with 9 frozen 20 oz bottles and it worked great all night. I have a very small hole, about 1 inch in the input side and a 45 that I pointed toward the wall with only a little space. There is nothing we can do about the wind but we were lucky this year with the temperature 45 was nice compared to the usual freezing temps we have here in VT.

I had about a 5 foot section of 5 inch tube filled with about 12 pounds of ice cubes. lasted over 3 hours and produced great ground hugging fog.

Groovy---I mentioned the flexible dryer hose,I used 3 water bottles in it and it worked great for me too but what does the holes punched in it do? Does the fog creep out the holes? By the way---it's nice to just compact the hose back down to 3 feet and store it,even the bottles fit inside ready for next year!

I tried it and part way through the night, noticed that no fog was coming out, lol! The pvc tube was so full of water that the fog couldn't make it to the end. At that point, I just took the fog chiller off.

I used about 8lbs of ice and the pvc chiller worked great! It was a very warm night and there was almost no wind. The fog stayed on the ground and really looked cool when you would walk through it. This chiller worked much better than the other one I made using a cooler. Next year I might try to put a "Y" in it to pump the fog to diferent areas.

Did any of you guys put holes in it so that the water could drain? 'cause seriously, my fog stopped flowing because of the tube being so full of water! LOL
