Default FLYING CRANK GHOST

I wanted to show off my FCG and see other people's FCG's as well. Many people have come up with wonderful concepts. It is true what they say about each creation having a little bit of its creator within.

<center>Here's a picture of our FCG during setup. Next Halloween we'll shred the cheesecloth. Looks much better that way. Click on the link to see a short video clip of our ghost in action http://www.yardhaunters.com/crankghostvideo.html

I love it. I especially like the full figureness of the prop. Like with my design, allowing the viewer to see "more" seems to enhance the effect. Using less material seems to make people let their mind see the construction. What kind of fabric did you use. I was looking for a more wholesome, but yet UV reactiv element. I looked at curtain products, being that they had a full and still UV reactive quality to them. I also liked the way your ghost tapered from a dominant quality, to a see through type construction, excellent job!!!!!!!!!

Thanks! We used a combination of coarse and fine cheescloth and then lighly sprayed it with fluorescent blue paint. This is our first FCG. As soon as the weather warms up here in Canada, I'll be building more. I also want to try a crank seleton and crank spider.

I am on the skeleton kick as well, I was thinking about using a 1/2 Bucky with a counterweight. You can find the ultimate Skeleton at Gore Galore, built by Kevin Alley. The price is right too. I have never seen a crank spider, it sounds awesome. I would love to build one of those too, but my wife suffers from Arachnaphobia. The hell with it, lets do it, LOL

Whoops. I meant skeleton, not seleton. Maybe I shouldn't drink beer and post to the forum at the same time. I was thinking about a full skeleton with 5 points on the crank rig so the feet move as well as the arms and head/body. Or maybe just the arms and legs moving with the head/body stationary. I'll have a few more beers and think about it. I use the Grainger 2Z806 motors for the FGC's I've built. I don't know if they're strong enough to continuously move a bucky skeleton for 8 hours or more on Halloween. I guess I'll find out when the weather warms up in 2 or 3 months. Wish I had a heated garage. I can't wait to get back out there to work on these things! Here's a link to a crank spider I found on the internet- http://softlyspokenmagicspells.com/halloween/dcs.html

WOW, that spider was awesome, what a thrill, now I have to have one of those too, holy sh--!
I am sure that the Dayton motor will run the skeleton FCG with the right conterweight, that has to be just slightly less in weight than the prop. I will weigh myself with and without the prop to see how much the finished product weighs and use the difference in weight to determine what size weight I buy. As long as the weight is about the same, any 6rpm motor should do. And I agree, if I layed off the beer, I would probably be more effective at building props, LOL, Thanks for the link!!

"As long as the weight is about the same, any 6rpm motor should do."

That's not neccesarily true. Although it will help...the weight will be offset when it's not dead center. Also keep in mind friction. The heavier it is the more friction on the pullies which equals more resistance. Also when the weight changes directions(up and down) the motor will need to be strong enough to reverse the momentum. The momentem will want to keep the weight going in one direction. You will have mass + gravity + acceleration. Mass and gravity will be balanced by the counterweight. The acceleration will determine the force your motor has to overcome.

When I built mine I used a rotisery motor. That wasn't strong enough so I went with the wiper motor.

Here's mine. She plays the role of Moaning Myrtle as long as we keep up the Harry Potter theme.
