I have seen many posts regarding FCG problems. I designed my prop from instructions posted on the net by Pat, at Kickthefog.com
The one problem I have noticed with other people's units, is the binding of lines. For one, the crank arm needs to be pointing slightly down, and the lines need to be heavy enough to travel without binding up. I used Nylon rope and painted them black. I also adjusted my crank arm, so that is was not level and in a slight downward position as it revolved. Again, if you are building and FCG, check out Kickthefog.com, their instructions are truly the best, and include wonderful photos of the step by step creation of this wonderful prop, gotta give Pat an attaboy, I know that my creation ran wonderful.

The Flying Crank ghost is a great prop...I however had nothing but trouble with mine.....I built a PVC frame so as not to have any obstructions from frontal nor side view....FIRST MISTAKE.....a FCG doesnt work well when exposed to the wind.........then I had nothibng but trouble with the lines.....I tried everything but nothing helped...A friend and of course fellow haunter told me that he uses 50 lb test fishing line and he has never ever had a problem...so I guess that will be next years trick that and putting her inside of a maseuleom out of the wind............

<center>I've built a few crank ghost's. Below is a photo of our rig set up in the neighbour's garage. We used black upholstery thread for our lines. We ran it for around a total of 20 hours before and on Halloween and had no problems. As you can see, I don't use pulleys. I don't see the need for them. I use zinc plated eybolts from Home Depot. No pulley wheel to jump off of, and nowhere to snag. I keep the lines pretty much parallel at the points where they run through the eyebolts and where they're attached at the 3 points on the washer. This is so the washer doesn't tip and cause friction on the nuts above and below it.

Nice rig! I agree with you totally about the test line, however, I used thin nylon rope, which had the right weight, and I only had to tie them off gently which made it easy to disassemle. I sprayed the lines jet black, which made them invisible, just as I did with the entire rig. Even though the rig looks prettier shiny, it defeats the purpose of stealthiness. I feel your pain about the wind, it can either intensify a great prop, or ruin the entire night. I also found it interesting that you didn't use pullys and your arm hangers are lower, to avoid you having to lean your crank arm downward. It is amazing as to how many different ideas you see. I often say "its a shame that we all weren't neighbors" imagine the haunted attraction we would have, LOL!
