Default Prop in the form of a Costume

Hallooo, everyone! So glad to have found this site! Here's my question: I'm using a carnival/freak show theme for Halloween Party 2004. Would like to be a three-legged girl. Plan on having a fake arm built into the costume so one arm can be hidden underneath to control the movement of the third leg, so it looks realistic. Question is, how can I build that leg or more importantly, the ankle and knee, so it can have joint movement and be controllable with one hand? Any takers on this one?

Thanks, sisvicki (still such a newbie as to not have a cool halloween name)

HHH

Heres the best advice I can give you...Im sure the other members will be more help...first off find a local prostethies place....then scope it out for just the right leg you are looking for...then have one of your friends create a diversion... perhaps a Ive fallen and cant get up routine..then while all eyes are on them out the door you go sporting your brand new remote control leg.......BTW just kidding

I'm the best at what I do, What I do isn't very nice

I sort of did this once for a witch costume. As I was entertaining a gymnasium full of kids I said something like, "You think I'm not a real witch? Well watch this!"
My legs were wearing white and light/blue striped hose so they could be seen easier, my black cape hung down behind to make it more noticable and to hide my one real leg all blacked-out that would hold me up as I appeared to lift both legs up and out at the same time!
Technically , I made the leg out of 1/2 inch pvc and made a pivot at the hip using a 1/4 inch bolt through the pipe , hooking it into a girdle/harness made from an old belt, I might have pop-riveted a scrap of tim to the belt to put the bolt into?
The upper end of the pvc elbowed sort of like a cane so I just pushed down on the cane handle-end and lifted the leg up.
I hope some of this might help you to figure out your costume.

hey, thanks for the replies, that does give me some ideas to start with. Can't wait to get get to the thrift shop to start looking for clothing to experiment on. Still working on a monster mud scary guy right now, so the leg thing will have to be next weekend.
