Default Pigs Feet Prop Help

Yesterday, in the grocery store, I saw pigs feet in the meat section. They would be a disgusting addition to our Leatherface meat market scene. I’d want to have them laying on the table, unwrapped, with blood on them. Then Mr. L brought up the fact that our TOTers always seem to touch everything. He said they might touch the pigs feet, then touch/eat some of their candy and could get salmonella from the uncooked meat. I certainly don’t want to be responsible for kids getting sick.

I’ve never cooked pigs feet before but if I boiled them first wouldn’t that kill the bacteria? But they’d be sitting out in the heat for a few hours so would that create new bacteria? Anyone have experience with pigs feet??

Just get pickled pigs feet instead, that way even if the tot's eat them it's no problem.

Or get one of those kits from a craft store the lets you make a cast of a hand and duplicate a pig's foot -- that way you can make a bunch of fake ones and not be worried about making TOTs (or anyone working in your haunt) sick.

I like batfly's idea. Throw in some Kieshka and they've got a meal!

Or do an all pickled halloween! Pickled pigs feet, turkey gizzards and eggs would be a healthfull alternative to all those sweets.

LOL, all great, funny ideas! Actually now I'm thinking of using the pickled pigs feet as a treat (but they'd get their usual candy too). Last year I wanted to do a "black box" type of thing. A big, black box that the TOTers would stick their hand into to get an extra treat, if they're brave enough to do it. I want to put something inside the box similar to the candy dishes that make a noise and have a hand come down and grab at you when you put your hand in the dish. I didn't know how to construct the box so it would be stable enough that I wouldn't have to monitor it all night. Now I want to put the pickled pigs feet in it!! Can you imagine the digust on their face when they pull out a pigs foot?? Wouldn't need many pigs feet as I'm sure they'd drop it immediately! LOL

Good luck getting them to stick their hands in a black box...only one out of about 150 kids would do it last year at my house!

LOVE the pigs feet prop idea...string them from the ceiling...yuckkkkk!!!

Beef tongues are gross too. Imagine having the TOT's reach in a box..and get licked!

My mother used to buy calf's brains at the butcher shop. I don't know if you can still get them, beyond maybe a slaughterhouse, but if you can find it, that would be the grossest thing ever. Between tongues, and pig's feet, eeewwww. Perfect.

P.S.
Don't forget liver, or sausage casings (otherwise known as intestines).
