You could use drop cloth canvas. It paints or dyes really well and holds up forever.

Did a little test last night. Took an old polytarp I had (the blue kind) and used my contact cement to glue black plastic on one side. I held it up to the shop light and it blocked out pretty well. I think it's the cheaper solution to my problem.

I think I have also found a good source for green, brown or black polytarps. they don't fit the exact size I will need but they're pretty close and at least the outside of the canopies won't be bright blue.

Now I just have to find the industrial size for contact cement. I figure with the two canopies I have about 1,580 square feet of black plastic to glue down. If everything in my future posts is all mexid up you'll konw I dno't hav enuogh vnetiltaion!

Thanks for all the comments and help!

Check with your local bill board company - they give away tarps the size of the bill boards.
They are super heavy duty.
The only drawback is that they are printed on one side with the ad.

Are the tarps the ads themselves? Or do they use then to cover the
billboards? Good thought. I'll check around.

They are the ads themselves - they print the ad on a heavy duty canvas material and then just ratchet strap it onto the bill board.

They are usually looking to get rid of them after they have been used, sometimes they have misprints.
