Default Another Texan

First I’d like to say it’s good to see a forum like this and some of the wonderful ideas and creations from people who truly love the holiday. After stumbling on the site I just knew this was a good place to hang out with people who understand the obsession.

Now on with the formal introduction; my name is Barry, most call me Bear, Blaisdell. I’m an independent mask and prop maker from Texas. I’ve been running a special effects and prop shop for several years called Dungeon Designers. This past season I closed the doors to the shop and 16 years of haunting at the Haunted Hotel to spend more quality time with my two little ones during my favorite time of the year. Over the years I’ve had the privilege to experience helping haunts and haunters accomplish their ideas and bring the fear to life. I only hope I can somehow contribute to my new found community.

After moving in to the realm of the home haunt, I must say I’ve realized it’s much harder than running a professional haunt as a business. But, I truly look forward to sharing anything I can with anyone who will listen and I can’t wait to learn from you as well.

Wishing you and your family a very Happy and Safe, Thanksgiving.
-Bear

Thanks for the welcome. Here's a few things to look at...not much, but something.

Welcome Bear. I'm new to the forum as well. Enjoy every minute you have with those kids, they grow up very quickly. It only took me 32 years to become a grandmother...but I made it. It is like having a second chance to do the things you enjoyed with your children. I look forward to meeting you often on the forum.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the welcome, yeah I can’t wait to show them what I really do during the Halloween season since they were always a little too scared to go to the haunt and work with me? It'll take some adjustments but I know once they get into the spirit of it they'll be hooked as well.

It took a while just for them to get used to the idea of daddy being a "monster" and having all sorts of scary creatures being sculpted and worked on in the shop. My daughter doesn't have too many friends make it through the night due to Freddy and the gang right next door, kind of funny actually, but she doesn't think so.

Gunnar, my son (2), on the other hand kind of likes the idea of scaring people so I don't think I'll have any problems with him. Especially after I introduced him to Kane Hodder (Jason from Friday the 13th parts 7-10), and Gunnar Hanson (Leatherface from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre). They are super nice guys and showed him that there's nothing real to the actual characters they portray. Much like I've tried several times without success, what does daddy know, right?

Anyway, thanks again and I hope I can contribute something to the forum and look forward to making new friends that understand the passion of Halloween!

Thanks bethene, I have no problem sharing anything I can so don't be shy to ask away and pick my brain...just so long as you don't use it as a prop.

I'm also a professional magician if anyone needs tips or ideas for illusions. (Probably should have put that in my intro, but anywho...there ya go!)
