Great theme, and Congrats on the baby news. A baby and a party in the same month, eh? Wow.

A trip to Home Depot might be a good place for ideas. Ebay might also have some good deals on Jacob's Ladders and stuff like that.
Be sure to post pics, I'd love to see your ideas.

With Frankenstien you can have any kind of food that looks like body parts. You know, brain jello molds, ladyfingers, ets. My wife has these crazy candy molds that you put a pretzel rod in, fill the rest of the mold with chocolate, and it makes chocolate covered pretzel fingers. They look pretty creepy, but taste greate.

Keep an eye out at yard sales or for sales at local pet stores for aquarium filter motors...they make great "bubbling" potions and concoctions in flasks and jars. And a cauliflower with a few strategic cuts here and there looks remarkably like a brain when you put it in a big jar with colored water (add a few tbsps of milk to make the water murky...adds to the drama if you can sort of see it, sort of not). And a fennel bulb (see link Fennel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) looks eerily like a human heart (roughly the same size, and has those things coming out the top like the big vessels of the heart, just cut off the leafy stuff) when placed in red colored water, really looks creepy. Sorry I don't have pictures, but that was before the digital camera.

Fun ideas.
Here's a fun eyeball edible for ya:
Grab a bunch of radishes, and peel off the red skin, but leaving thin, red "veining" here and there. Then, cut a hole in each radish, big enough to fit a 1/2 of a green olive with pimento.

You can find the recipe, with pics, on fabulousfoods.com. In their recipe, they dropped each eyeball into an icecube tray, filled it with water, froze them, then used the eyeball icecubes for martinis. But I skipped the last part, and just set them out with the food.

This past Halloween I did a fairy tale theme. The dining room was Snow White's cottage and on our dining room table I had Snow White laying in the middle, the length of the table with an apple in her hand (it was a snow white dress and a skeleton underneath). The table was all done up with red table cloth and doily-like stuff strewn about.

That's the first thing I thought of when I read this thread. Have your food table be the table Franky is on...

I picture that room and several other 'lab' rooms. By using cheap rope (or thin 'weak' conduit) painted a dark dirty color, you can have those hanging from the walls and ceiling - stretched across the room - to mimic big heavy wires and cables (to handle the power from the lightning of course).
That idea is good to take up some space and make 'filler' on the walls and empty area of a room while still being right with the theme. I know when I gussy up the house for Halloween, there are several areas that are just... empty feeling -- maybe no pictures on the wall, or a blank corner.... when you look at a blank wall and blank ceiling, it can take away from the mood. By stringing up some rope --- bundle them together, then at a certain point have the bundle (say 4 ropes) go off in different directions - attach to the ceiling to make it look like it's going up, end a rope at the light switch, a few to the lamps, tables, etc --- your able to fill in space, inexpensively, while giving the guests the feeling that your entire place has been 'touched' by the theme.

EDIT: I also realize that suggestion has nothing to do with food or invites, but I have to get my ideas out in some way.

DeadTed....good to see you back on the boards!

Ghostly Duo....if you can track down Tallula and get the link to her 2006 party pictures there may be an idea for you. She used an 8ft table and had some kind of body form under a white sheet. She had those fake hands that were showing and the sheet had the chest cavity open for her salsa & chips and she had blood on the sheet. It would look real cool to have that body be frankenstein and use the cavity for food or just as a prop. I'll see if I can find that link for you.

I hope this works for you....there are 2 pages of pictures, if you look at the bottom of the page you will see this table with the body, also go to page 2, it has more photos there. Hope it gives you some inspiration!
